German Navy F-104G Fighter “Marineflieger” When it comes to naval aviation, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force primarily operates anti-submarine patrol aircraft and ship-based anti-submarine helicopters, while countries like the United States and France, which possess aircraft carriers, are strongly associated with the operation of carrier-based aircraft. However, there are many countries around the world where navies independently operate land-based fighters as anti-ship attack aircraft. The German Navy’s Marineflieger (Naval Air Force) operated supersonic jet fighters in a role similar to that of the Imperial Japanese Navy’s Type 1 Land-Based Attack Aircraft. The West German Navy valued the F-104G not for its handling difficulties?which had been exposed in the Air Force?but rather for its stability against gusts due to high wing loading, its high speed of Mach 1.15 at sea level, and its low detectability due to its small size. Designed to excel at low-altitude, high-speed flight, it was deployed to launch high-speed attacks from low altitudes?below enemy radar coverage?while carrying anti-ship missiles, and exerted significant influence in the Baltic and North Sea regions, which were the front lines against the Soviet Union at the time. To accurately reproduce this F-104G adopted by the West German Navy, this kit features newly molded parts for the engine nozzles, navigation lights, and Mk.GQ7 ejection seat, in addition to the chaff and flare dispensers. Markings for aircraft belonging to the 1st Naval Air Wing (MFG1) and the 2nd Naval Air Wing (MFG2) are included. Series Name 1/72 Scale Jet Aircraft (Limited Edition)
