German Navy F-104G Fighter “Marineflieger” When it comes to naval aviation, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force primarily operates anti-submarine patrol aircraft and ship-based anti-submarine helicopters, while countries like the United States and France, which possess aircraft carriers, are strongly associated with the operation of carrier-based aircraft. However, there are many countries around the world where navies independently operate land-based fighters as anti-ship attack aircraft. The German Navy’s Marineflieger (Naval Air Force) operated supersonic jet fighters in a role similar to that of the Imperial Japanese Navy’s Type 1 Land-Based Attack Aircraft.
