When Iraqi forces invaded Kuwait in August 1990, the United States and other Western nations immediately announced countermeasures and began moving troops to the Middle East. A deadline for the Iraqi forces to withdraw was issued, and Operation Desert Shield was launched. The U.S. Air Force first deployed F-15C fighters from the 71st Tactical Fighter Squadron (71TFS) of the 1st Tactical Fighter Wing (1TFW) to Saudi Arabia. This unit was the first U.S. combat unit to land in support of Operation Desert Shield. In addition, the 33rd Tactical Fighter Wing (33TFW) and other units were dispatched to various bases in Saudi Arabia. When Operation Desert Storm began on January 17, 1991, the various F-15 units engaged in escort missions for attack aircraft, shooting down Iraqi Air Force MiGs, Mirage F-1s, and other aircraft one after another. The number of confirmed F-15 kills during the Gulf War totaled 35 (including helicopters), resulting in a one-sided battle with no F-15s shot down or lost. In this kit, the vertical stabilizer equipped with a rear-view radar antenna matching the aircraft has been reproduced using a new mold. The kit includes markings for an aircraft from the 33rd Tactical Fighter Wing featuring the “GULF SPIRIT” emblem on the nose, a “MiG Killer” aircraft with kill marks, and an aircraft from the 71st Tactical Fighter Squadron with kill marks. Series Name 1/72 Scale Jet Aircraft (Limited Edition)
