Plastic Ship Model Assembly Kit 1/700 Special 99EX-2 IJN Heavy Cruiser Ibuki Special Spec (w/Precision Etching Parts) The modified Suzutani type heavy cruiser "Ibuki" is now available with precision etched parts! The product is an unpainted kit requiring adhesive assembly and painting. The scale is 1/700, and the bottom part of the ship is not included. The heavy cruiser "Ibuki" was planned in November 1941, one month before the war started, as a (rapid) replacement for wartime wear and tear, and construction started at the Kure Naval Arsenal. In order to shorten the construction time, the ship was based on Suzutani, a late model of the Mogami type. The air defense command post was installed from the beginning, the rear mast was moved to the rear to improve the wireless capability, and the lightning armament was changed to four launchers (the Mogami type had three launchers). The ship was launched in April 1943, after the loss of the main carrier in the Battle of Midway, and the order of construction was low. In August 1943, the ship was converted to a light aircraft carrier, and the Sasebo Naval Arsenal was in charge of the construction. The product is a set of "Ibuki" and etching parts for exclusive use of upgrade. The motif is based on the appearance of the first ship of the modified Suzutani type "Ibuki" when completed as a heavy cruiser at the time of the war. The included photo-etched parts are a set of two pieces, containing more than 140 different parts for one ship. Different outfitting and lightning equipment and distinctive parts from the Mogami type are provided in dedicated parts. Ship Structure The body parts with the same cross-sectional shape as the late Mogami type ships "Suzutani and Kumano" are provided. The portholes are reproduced with closed portholes due to the war lessons. EP): The two-tiered handrail around the entire ship is a specially designed part to match the shape of the entire ship. Bridge/Front mast/Main gun EP): No.21 electric probe: Folded into a box shape from a flat plate, both the rear and front surfaces of the frame are expressed. EP): No.13 electric searchlight: 5-part construction with separate prop and horizontal aerial for precision. The bridge window is prepared with transparent parts for more realistic finish. The anti-aircraft guns installed on both sides of the bridge are Type 94 anti-aircraft guns (the Mogami type is equipped with Type 91 anti-aircraft guns). The floor of the air defense command post and the bridge is sculpted with delicate grating. Binocular telescope parts are attached to the air defense command post to increase the sense of precision. Chimneys/air supply ports/linoleum deck The narrow chimney, which is a feature of the 10 boiler cans installed on the same ship as the Suzutani and Kumano, is included. The steam dumping pipe is designed as a separate part to increase the sense of precision. Aft mast/crane/explosion armament Aft mast is a special part to be equipped just before turret No. 4, and a crane for water reconnaissance and No. 13 electric search are special parts in the opposite position from Suzutani's. EP): Crane for water reconnaissance: Flat plate is assembled into a cylindrical shape, and the hook part at the tip is a separate part. Aft of the crane is an anti-submarine armament with a dedicated detonating ramp and detonator. EP): Detonating rail: Consists of a containment frame and detonator. Shelter deck/Aircraft working deck The shelter section, where the torpedo tubes are installed, is a three-dimensional version of the spare torpedo storage area. The torpedo launchers are four torpedoes, which were planned to be equipped in the initial plan, and are reproduced with dedicated parts based on a new mold. The torpedo tubes can be mounted at any angle, in the normal state along the stern line, or in a swiveled firing state. EP): - Catapult: The truss structure is reproduced and folded into a box. Ship-borne aircraft: Folded and boxed to reproduce the truss structure. Molding color is gray to improve workability (to prevent damage when cutting the gate).
