The Crusader was called the "Last Gun Fighter".
This is due to the fact that the number of MiG fighters shot down in the early days of the Vietnam War was higher than that of the Phantom II.
The prototype XF8U-1 made its maiden flight in March 1955, and at that time it had already exceeded the speed of sound.
