Aoshima’s Full Hull Series Gets a Long-Awaited Revamp!! This time, the Imperial Japanese Navy gunboat “Seta” makes its return! The “Seta-class gunboats” were river gunboats built by the Imperial Japanese Navy for the purpose of patrolling rivers on the Chinese mainland and protecting Japanese interests. Four ships (Seta, Hira, Hozu, and Katata) entered service in the 1920s and operated primarily in the Yangtze River basin. Taking advantage of their shallow draft and compact hulls, they navigated rivers and carried out support missions. By the end of World War II, they had become increasingly dilapidated; some continued operations in the Chinese theater before being lost or seized by local forces.
