R34 GT-R In January 1999, the R34 Skyline GT-R (BNR34) was born, based on the R33 Skyline GT-R, which had until then held the title of “the most powerful.” The powertrain featured a further refinement of the legendary “RB26DETT” engine inherited from the R32 model. Although maximum output was limited to 280 ps?the domestic voluntary regulatory limit at the time?it boasted a torque of 40.0 kg・m and 15.6 kg・m per liter, making it the most powerful domestic engine of its era. Additionally, it was equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission jointly developed with Getrag. The body size was also downsized compared to the R33 model, significantly enhancing handling performance.
