The Royal Navy aircraft carrier “Hermes” makes a comeback in the 1/700 Waterline Series. The Royal Navy aircraft carrier “Hermes” was one of the first “practical aircraft carriers designed specifically as such.” Construction began in 1918, she was launched in 1919, and she entered service in 1924. Although a small aircraft carrier with a displacement of approximately 10,000 metric tons, she contributed significantly to the development of carrier-based aircraft operations and served in the Mediterranean and the Far East. She was engaged in convoy escort and patrol duties in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, but was sunk during the Indian Ocean campaign in April 1942 after coming under air attack by carrier-based aircraft from the Imperial Japanese Navy’s Mobile Fleet. The Hermes was a pioneer in the history of aircraft carrier development, and its design philosophy and operational experience had a major influence on the construction of later aircraft carriers. This kit accurately reproduces the “Hermes” with a simple parts configuration. New color-printed painting instructions have been added. ● Newly included color painting diagrams ● Carrier-based aircraft included 〈Ship Type〉 Aircraft Carrier 〈Nationality〉 Foreign Vessel Color Painting Diagrams Added *The image shows a prototype. The actual product may differ. *This product is a plastic model kit. Tools and other supplies are required for assembly.
