It was built at Sasebo Arsenal. After completion, she belonged to the 16th Destroyer Squadron of the 2nd Mine Squadron together with Hatsukaze, Tokitsukaze, and Amatsukaze. In the Pacific War, it participated in the southern campaign at the same time as the war started, and exchanged fire with the Allied fleet in the Battle of Surabaya. After this, she participated in fierce battles such as the Battle of Midway, the Battle of the South Pacific, the Third Battle of Solomon, the Battle of Gashima, the Battle of Mariana, the Battle of Leyte, and the Yamato Suicide Attack Operation, but always miraculously returned alive, demonstrating her good fortune. Through these battles, Yukikaze's appearance changed dramatically, transforming from a ship-to-ship combat strong-arm ship to a ship with enhanced air defense combat armament. A new machine gun position was built in front of the bridge, where a single 25mm continuous machine gun was installed. In 1944, the second main gun turret at the rear was removed and two 25mm triple anti-aircraft machine guns were added. As the battle raged on, the Kou class destroyer was the only survivor, including not only the Kagero class but also the Yugumo class, which was a semi-identical class destroyer, as its crew members were lost one after another. After the war, she was dismantled and equipped with living quarters, and became a demobilized ship to transport Japanese who were being repatriated from overseas. It is said that the Yukikaze carried more than 10,000 demobilized Japanese. Manga artist Shigeru Mizuki also recalled his demobilization aboard the Yukikaze. On July 6, 1947, the ship was handed over to the Republic of China as a war reparation ship and renamed Danyang. The ROC welcomed the Yukikaze as the flagship of its fleet. She was dismantled in 1970 due to the effects of typhoons and her decrepit condition. *The image shown is a prototype. *The series No. will continue after the renewal.
