For the F-4 jet fighter, the air campaign in Vietnam was also an opportunity to identify operational improvements and further additional performance requirements. As a result, the U.S. Navy selected an F-4B with relatively few combat flight hours to undergo modifications that would bring its performance up to that of the J and extend its service life. This was the N model. The U.S. Navy deploys a fleet of aircraft carriers and other aircraft to the world's oceans at all times in order to promote its own political, economic, and security presence. The Navy and Marine Corps traditionally work together to keep their budgets in line, and it is not uncommon for Marine Corps squadrons to deploy to aircraft carriers. The kit reproduces VMFA-531 as it was deployed in 1979 with the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CVW-14: 14th Air Wing) for deployment in the Indo-Pacific area. The main wings are reproduced with the addition of a new mold.
