VF-2 (Combat Squadron 2), also known as the “Bounty Hunters,” was the first F-14 squadron to be reorganized with the VF-1 when the F-14A entered service. During the Vietnam War, the Bounty Hunters were assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise and participated in their first real combat mission, assisting in the evacuation of American residents in Saigon. In the 1980s, when the Cold War was at its most tense, U.S. Navy aircraft were replaced by low-visibility (low-visibility) camouflage in the blue-gray color scheme known as countershade. However, with the end of the Cold War, the use of colorful paints was relaxed for naval squadron commanders and air group command (CAG) aircraft from around the end of the 1980s. This kit reproduces the color scheme as it was in 1988, when the colorful 1970s VF-2 aircraft were reissued. This paint scheme was also applied to the F-14D, which was later updated, and is now carried over to the F/A-18F after the model conversion.
