The Japan Air Self-Defense Force held combat skills competitions involving entire units, aiming not only to improve fighter pilots but also to enhance the skills of air traffic controllers and others. During the 1980s, as mixed-aircraft dogfighting training with the F-4EJ intensified, many F-104s sporting “special paint schemes” beyond the standard camouflage appeared. Their distinctive appearances captured the hearts of aviation enthusiasts. This kit includes markings to recreate the “202nd Squadron” participating in the 1980 competition and the “207th Squadron” participating in 1984. Notably, the 202nd Squadron aircraft featured a unique paint scheme closely resembling the “ocean camouflage” later adopted by the F-2, making them stand out distinctly. Featuring all-new tooling, the fuselage employs a panel-line-aligned sectional design. This enhances ease of assembly while aiming for a highly detailed finish.
