In the late 1990s, the F-14 gained night attack and targeting capabilities through the installation of LANTIRN pods. It evolved as an attack aircraft by carrying smart bombs under its fuselage instead of conventional missiles. During the 2001 Afghanistan War, operating under the severe constraint of no friendly airfields nearby, it fulfilled its missions by leveraging its long range and flexible operational capabilities. Its excellent low-altitude performance from variable-geometry wings (VG wings) and substantial payload capacity enabled it to serve as a precision bomber, brilliantly capping its combat history. This kit reproduces the markings of VF-154 (nicknamed the Black Knights) immediately after their return to Japan from Afghanistan in 2003. Although it was quickly returned to the United States due to the transition to the F/A-18F, its appearance remains etched in the memories of many fans as “the last F-14 seen in Japan.” The bomb racks under the fuselage are newly added parts. Series Name 1/72 Scale Jet Aircraft (Limited Edition)
