West Germany evaluated the F-104 interceptor fighter for its bomb-carrying capacity and low-altitude attack capabilities, and adopted it in large numbers. A total of 916 aircraft were operated, comprising 749 F/RF-104Gs and the two-seat variant of the F-104. In addition to low-altitude tactical bombing, the aircraft incorporated a unique design that allowed it to carry U.S.-administered nuclear weapons and employ anti-ship weapons intended for use against the Soviet Navy. However, in Germany?a country with many mountains and unpredictable weather?crashes involving the F-104 occurred frequently, resulting in significant losses: 292 aircraft were lost in accidents. Consequently, the aircraft faced strong criticism from former ace pilots regarding its operational procedures and training methods. As a solution, officers who had been warning of the dangers took the lead in developing a Europeanized training program, which helped reduce the number of accidents. This kit reproduces the F-104G adopted by the West German Air Force. Differences from the F-104J include modified engine nozzle shapes, the addition of VHF antennas on the upper fuselage and underside of the nose, navigation lights on the upper and lower fuselage, replacement of the ejection seat with the Mk.GQ7, and new tire molds. The kit includes markings for aircraft belonging to the 33rd Fighter-Bomber Wing (JaboG33) and the 34th Fighter-Bomber Wing (JaboG34). Series Name 1/72 Scale Jet Aircraft (Limited Edition)
