The Zero-sen Type 52 “A” was produced not only by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries but also by Nakajima Aircraft. Like the Mitsubishi-made Type 52, the Type 52 KO was updated with a belt-loaded Type 4 gun capable of loading 125 rounds of ammunition, replacing the Type 52's drum magazine type Type 3 gun with a belt-loaded Type 4 gun. In addition, a trapezoidal cover protruding from the leading edge of the main wings was added, and a teardrop bulge was installed under the main wings to prevent the drum magazine from fitting into the wings. These are the differences in appearance between the unmarked Type 52 and the Type 52A.
Another difference between the Mitsubishi and Nakajima models is the length of the heat-resistant plate near the outlet of the thrust-operated single exhaust pipe, which is longer on the Nakajima model than on the Mitsubishi. Furthermore, the Nakajima-made Type 52 KO differs from the Mitsubishi-made Type 52 KO in that the Nakajima-made Type 52 KO is equipped with a larger spinner due to a change in the propeller governor, and an intensifier tank with a different suspension system.
In this product, these differences in detail were carefully studied in numerous photographs and were sculpted with parts made from new molds. The markings are for the aircraft that appeared in the movie “Raikkitai Doudou” during the war, and also for the aircraft belonging to the 653rd Air Force, which fought hard as the aircraft for the aircraft carrier Zuikaku.
