The Special Series features the Tone with etched parts! This product is an unpainted kit that requires assembly and painting. The scale is 1/700, and it is a model of the ship above the waterline, excluding the hull. This product is composed of molds from the previous Special Series and newly added molded parts. The product is based on the appearance of the first ship of the Tone class, the Tone, during the Battle of Leyte Gulf (October 1944). It features the 21st and 22nd radar on the forward mast, the 13th radar on the aft mast, and numerous 25mm single-barrel machine guns. The kit includes etching parts that can reproduce even the finest details that are difficult to reproduce with injection-molded parts. The etching parts include handrails, ladders, radar, cranes, and catapults. The decals include military flags, national flags, and markings such as the Rising Sun flag for aircraft carried on board. ? The Type 13 radar is a newly included part with a truss structure and sculpted antennae. ? The Type 21 radar features more delicate sculpting than previous parts, including the insulator bases for fixing the elements on the front side. ・The No. 22 radar is molded in an open state using a slide mold. ・The 12.7 cm twin high-angle gun A1 Kai 1 is divided into six parts, improving the sculpting resolution from the previous two-part design. ・The 9-meter cutter is divided into two parts for painting, with a separate part for the mounting bracket, allowing for the option of an integrated deck mold. ? The 11-meter motorboat has been divided into separate parts for the canvas, steering room, and engine room canopy, taking painting into consideration. Each part is painted separately, and assembly and gluing are done afterward. ? The ship-mounted boat mounts have been molded to depict uneven shapes and small holes, enhancing the sense of precision. ? New parts have been added for the chrysanthemum crest on the bow, the side lights on the bridge, and the lifeboat buoys. ・Binocular telescope parts have been added to the anti-aircraft command post and compass bridge. ・Decals for the ship name at the stern (in military ship color) and the white line on the mast have been added. ・The Type 96 25mm machine gun now comes as a standard two-part design, reducing the need for painting and color separation work. Hull ・The hull is a one-piece structure molded as a single unit on both sides, allowing for stable assembly compared to a left-right joint type. ・The closed portholes, unclosed portholes, and outer hull circuits surrounding the hull are reproduced with three-dimensional engraving. Upper Deck ? The upper deck is a single piece, with detailed carvings such as linoleum deck fasteners and iron deck anti-slip surfaces. Ammunition boxes are reproduced as a single molded part on the deck. Each Deck ? The shelter deck is a separate part, and the lower torpedo equipment compartment is accurately reproduced. ? The rails connecting to the aviation work deck are molded as a single part using a slide mold. Bridge ・The distinctive small bridge structure is assembled in layers for precise shape reproduction. ・Separate parts such as ladders and truss-shaped pillars enhance the sense of precision. Main turret ・The main gun barrel can be reproduced at any elevation angle depending on the angle at which it is attached to the turret. ? Side openings with heat shields are expressed with extremely fine engraving. Funnels ? Both the front and rear funnels are split into left and right sections, with handrails and double scaffolding expressed with delicate engraving. ? The rain guards on the funnels are open, allowing the inner tubes to be seen. ? The steam exhaust pipes are separate parts from the funnels, increasing the level of detail. Mast and aviation equipment ・The rear mast is finished with a precise shape, despite being divided into the smallest parts, such as the support pillar and radar room. ・The catapult (Kure Type 2 Model 5) realistically reproduces the side and top shapes using a slide mold. Carrier-based aircraft ・The mold color is gray to improve workability (prevent damage during gate cutting). ? Four Zero-type (three-seat) seaplane reconnaissance aircraft are included. Included Decals ? Three sizes of naval ensigns are provided. The actual dimensions of 10 cm, 6 cm, and 3 cm are scaled to 1/700. ? Includes the Japanese flag for carrier-based aircraft, friendly identification bands (yellow bands), etc. The Japanese flag includes post-war versions without white borders. ? Decals featuring mast white lines and ship name markings on the stern (two types: gold and painted over in warship color) are included.
