This “Akagi” kit includes etched parts and comes with a wave base that realistically depicts the ship at sea. No painting required: Each part is pre-colored in its molded color, and some parts use decals to achieve the final color scheme. No glue required: The parts are designed to snap together, making assembly easy. (Structural and Specification Features) ・Composed of color-separated parts, the intended color scheme is reproduced without the need for painting. ・The snap-fit assembly allows for assembly without the use of glue. ・Includes a water surface base that realistically recreates the ship sailing on the open sea and makes display easier. (Product Features) ・Scale: 1/700. ・The product is modeled after the ship’s appearance during the Pearl Harbor attack in December of Showa 16 (at the outbreak of the war). ・This product was designed and manufactured using molds developed later than those of the same scale but from a different series (Special Series). ・The completed model is an at-sea type, reproducing the ship above the waterline. ・Parts are colored in a grayish-brown molded color that mimics the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal color scheme based on historical records (registered with the Yokosuka Naval District; entered dry dock at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal in Showa 17). ・The display base featuring the sea surface realistically depicts the wake generated by the bow, sides, and propellers in three dimensions. Hull ・The hull is split into left and right halves, divided at the waterline. It is molded in a custom gray color modeled after the naval ship color used at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal. ・The sides are split into left and right halves, with portholes and external wiring rendered with sharp, three-dimensional sculpting. ・Fittings and structural elements, such as fairleaders, are realistically reproduced with sharp detailing. Flight Deck ・The flight deck is divided into separate parts for the steel sections and the wooden deck. This allows for color differentiation without the need for painting. ・The wooden deck features delicate detailing that looks realistic even unpainted, with sufficient depth to accommodate panel lining when painting. ・The elevator’s eye rings are rendered with delicate detailing. ・The drainage channels, windbreaks, and truss structure on the underside surrounding the flight deck are rendered in three dimensions with meticulous detail. Bow ・The bow’s anchor deck features integrated molded fittings, while the anchor chain and other elements are reproduced with three-dimensional sculpting. ・The crane rails beneath the aft flight deck are separate parts, demonstrating attention to detail even in hard-to-see areas. ・The main and auxiliary struts supporting the flight deck are reproduced with delicate parts. Outfitting ・The smokestack’s tip is a separate part; molded in black, it replicates the color separation without the need for painting, and the depth of the exhaust ports is also accurately reproduced. ・The bridge features realistic molding with details cast all around using a slide mold. ・The 20-cm guns mounted on both sides of the stern are superbly detailed, even capturing the wrinkles in the canvas. Aircraft ・The set includes three types of aircraft carried aboard the ship from December Showa 16 through June Showa 17, when it was lost in action. The Zero fighter and Type 99 carrier-based bomber are molded in light gray. The Type 97 carrier-based torpedo bomber is molded in dark green. Each model consists of a single piece, with three of each type included for a total of nine aircraft. ・The included Hinomaru marking decals make it easy to reproduce the original color scheme. Included Stickers ・Includes pre-cut stickers with excellent conformability that make it easy to add color to fine details. ・The included stickers feature the linoleum flooring of the outer gangway and the white lines on the flight deck, allowing you to add color without painting. ・In addition to the stickers, a separate set of decals is included for those who prefer a painted finish, featuring the white lines on the flight deck and the Hinomaru flags on the aircraft. ・The molded parts consist of a total of 7 colors. (Yokosuka Naval Arsenal color, Black, Linoleum color, Wooden deck color, Dark green, Light gray-white, Clear blue) ・Finished size: (approx.) L 396 × W 134 × H 66 mm (including display sea surface base) [Contents] ・Runners × 25 ・Sea surface part × 1 ・Assembly instructions × 1 ・ Colored Stickers × 3・Decals × 1 Etched Parts ・Includes etched parts that allow for detailed reproduction down to the finest details?something difficult to achieve with injection-molded parts. ・Etched Part Size: (approx.) 130 × 180 mm; Thickness: (approx.) 0.1 mm ・The etching parts include handrails, fall protection netting, a retractable radio mast, and smokestack outlets. *Information current as of August 2026.
