In 1959, NSU Corporation in Germany and Wankel Company, the engineer, Dr. Felix Wankel, pursued its own development from the pre-war and successfully invented the rotary engine. Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. (now Mazda Co., Ltd.), which focused on this, negotiated negotiations with NSU Corporation and in 1961 signed a technical alliance agreement. And the engine which was completed after various difficulties until practical use was full of ideas and technologies not found in the original NSU company. A low, flowing body that images the future and the universe, suitable for this engine, was designed and debuted in May 1967 under the name of Cosmo Sports (export model 110S).
343 models were created with model name L10A with this world's first two-rotor engine. In July 1968, minor changes were made centering on power up, becoming L10B, and by September 1972 1176 units were produced.
