The history of Japanese motor sports began with the 1st Japan Grand Prix (GP) held in 1963. Domestic manufacturers at that time were actively engaged in harsh motor sports, and in 1965 Toyota formed TMSC (Toyota Motorsports Club). Celica 's good advances continued in 1972 and won the Touring Car class at All Japan Suzuka Auto Race in March.
