The AV-8B which appeared under such circumstances was greatly improved in capacity to meet the tactical demands of the US Marine Corps.
The main wing was enlarged, its cross section became a super critical airfoil, and LERX (front edge extension) was provided at the root of the main wing, and it was aerodynamically improved.
Moreover, due to heavy use of composite materials, the weight was kept to a minimum, and the auxiliary wheels under the wing moved from the wing tip to the central part of the main wing, and the wing hard point increased by two places.
Meanwhile, avionics was also greatly modernized, ARBS (angular velocity bombing system) which was put into practical use with the A - 4 M Sky Hawk was equipped in the aircraft, the accuracy of weapon drop remarkably improved,
