A new Godzilla sculpture has been added to the “ARTPLA SCULPTURE WORKS” series, which delivers masterpiece sculptures in plastic kit form! The original model was created by Shinobu Matsumura, a leading figure in natural history and biological sculpture. Based on the promotional stills from the 1954 film “Godzilla,” this design reconstructs and reimagines the essence of Godzilla across seven decades. Rather than replicating suits or CG, it portrays the ancient giant creature appearing in Tokyo in three-dimensional form. The collapsed Nikkatsu Building and JR elevated tracks at the base, along with the pose of the creature clutching a train in its jaws, enhance the sense of realism. Matsumura's soul-infused sculpting work is condensed into an 8-piece plastic kit with fixed poses. The organic yet complex body surface details are faithfully reproduced from the original prototype. Despite the complex segmentation, the structure?where body parts are attached to the base body, a method adopted in previously released series?ensures durability. The parts fit together with high precision, and the segmentation lines are barely noticeable. Assembly itself is enjoyable, and even in its unpainted, unassembled state, it serves as a display-worthy ornament. Of course, when painted, the combination of the super-giant creature Godzilla and the collapsed structures will spark the imagination of painters. Painting example created by Shinobu Matsumura The body color of Godzilla (1954) differs from the black-based colors of many subsequent Godzilla designs, often being depicted in brown or gray tones reminiscent of the movie poster. However, for this version, a reddish-brown tone was chosen to match the burning city.
