Plastic model [Scale] 1/72 [Size when completed] Approx. 150mm in length Commemorative painted aircraft that appeared on the 50th anniversary of the first flight of the T-33 This plastic model assembly kit reproduces the jet trainer aircraft of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, T-33A, which is reproduced in 1/72 scale. [About the actual aircraft] The T-33 Shooting Star is a jet trainer aircraft that was mainly operated by the U.S. Air Force from 1948 after World War II. It was also used by the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force and was a familiar aircraft in Japanese skies. It was powered by a single Allison J33-A-35 centrifugal turbojet engine. It boasted a maximum speed of Mach 0.8 without tip tanks or guise armament. By 1959, more than 6,500 aircraft had been produced, making it a best-selling aircraft used in more than 30 countries around the world. It was also produced under license in Japan, and was the first jet produced under license in Japan after the war. Many pilots in the Air Self-Defense Force grew up with this aircraft.
