Another Porsche that made the fierce 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 1979 so exciting! This 1/24th scale plastic model kit reproduces the Porsche 935 Turbo that took 2nd place overall and won its class in the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans. About the real car The Porsche 935 Turbo was developed by Porsche for the World Manufacturer's Championship that was to be contested under the Group 5 regulations that came into effect in 1976. It was based on the Porsche 911 Turbo, which attracted much attention as a production turbocharged car, and while retaining its body shape, it was fitted with wider fenders and a larger rear wing. The engine was a 2856cc horizontally opposed 6-cylinder air-cooled engine with a single turbocharger. After debuting in 1976 and winning the championship, the car continued to develop and outperform its rivals. From 1977, the company began supplying machines for private teams other than works teams. From 1977, the company began supplying cars to private teams in addition to works teams, and these private teams competed in the IMSA series in the U.S. as well as in Europe. In the 1979 Le Mans 24-hour race, one of the privateer teams, Kremer Racing, won the overall victory with their 935K3, a car with unique modifications, The 935 of the Dick Barber team from IMSA in the U.S. also competed with the Kramer to win the championship, finishing 2nd overall and 1st in the IMSA class, demonstrating the power of Porsche.
