In the French army of World War II, the small-sized armored vehicle used for a wide range of tasks such as towing light guns and transporting mortars is, of course, the UE tractor. It has a solid design, such as a bolted vehicle body in the plan configuration and an undercarriage that supports the wheels with a garter beam, and has cast dome-shaped hatches for two crew members. In addition, the rear loading platform can be tilted backward by in-vehicle operation, and it can carry about 1 ton of goods together with the trailer to be towed. About 4,900 UE tractors, including the upgraded UE2 from 1931 before the outbreak of the war to 1940 against Germany, are deployed mainly in infantry units. Not only the French army, but also the German army that occupied France was used until the end of the war on all fronts.
