The F-35 Lightning II, developed as a fifth-generation fighter with excellent stealth performance, was simultaneously developed in three models: a conventional landing type (F-35A), a short takeoff and vertical landing type (F-35B), and a shipborne type (F-35C), and deployment has been underway since 2015, mainly by the U.S. military. Among them, the F-35C, developed as a shipborne type, has a larger wing, vertical tail, and horizontal tail area than the F-35A and F-35B to improve landing and takeoff performance on aircraft carriers, and its cruising range has also increased. It has details unique to naval aircraft, such as reinforced leg columns to withstand heavy landings on the flight deck, forelegs with launch bars to accommodate catapult ejection, and wing tip folding mechanism for operation in tight spaces on ships. The U.S. Navy's first F-35C with anti-radar and stealth capabilities has greatly enhanced its operational capabilities. As of 2024, the F-35C is deployed to six active-duty squadrons in the Navy and Marine Corps, and the number of F-35C deployments will gradually increase until it fills the flight deck. All the main types of the F-35, the A, B, and C types, are now available. Following the 1/48 F-35A and 1/48 F-35B, the flagship of Tamiya's airplane models, which have achieved a high level of reproducibility, precision, and ease of assembly, the ship-based F-35C has already been added to the 1/48 Masterpiece Aircraft Series. In addition to the product configuration designed to ensure reliable assembly, the fuselage top parts, which have undergone major changes since the Type A and Type B, have been completely redesigned and faithfully reproduced. The thick and solid leg columns, arresting hooks, folded wingtips, and other features unique to ship-borne aircraft are all included. Information is current as of September 18, 2024.
