The I-400 submarine of the Imperial Japanese Navy was built as a submarine carrier that could launch three "Hararashi" special attack aircraft from a submarine capable of covert action, an unprecedented feat in the history of submarine warfare. With an overall length of 122 meters, an overall width of 12 meters, and an underwater discharge capacity of 6,560 tons, it was comparable to a destroyer and was the largest submarine in the world at the time. With the ability to circumnavigate the globe and a half without making a port call, it was no dream to launch a surprise attack on the East Coast of the United States or the Panama Canal, a key strategic point for the Allied Forces. The first ship, I-400, was completed in December 1944 at the end of the Pacific War. She and the second ship, I-401, were on their way to attack the U.S. task force at Ulithi Atoll when the war ended, and they never saw actual combat. However, her performance demonstrated to the world the superior technological capabilities of the Imperial Japanese Navy, and is said to have led to the later conception of the strategic missile submarine. Stickers are also included to guide the installation of the handrails. Four torpedoes machined from metal are also included.
