Tamiya 1/35 Military Miniature Series No.103 GERMAN FIELD KITCHEN (Reissue)

[The Mobile Kitchen Known as the “Stew Cannon”] During World War II, the German Army used field kitchen wagons to supply food to non-mechanized units, such as infantry. Large field kitchen wagons, in particular, were typically pulled by two to four horses and could provide meals for approximately 120 to 220 soldiers. These large field kitchens consisted of two vehicles: a lead vehicle called a limber and a trailer. The limber featured a driver’s platform and carried food storage compartments and containers for transporting cooked meals. The trailer was equipped with stew pots, coffee pots, and other cooking utensils. Because its appearance?with wooden wheels and a chimney?resembled a tank, it was affectionately nicknamed the “Gulaschkanone” (Stew Cannon). It is said that at the outbreak of the war, a single infantry regiment had approximately 30 of these large field kitchen wagons.
