[An endurance racer that enjoyed great success, including victory at the 1981 Suzuka 8 Hours] Honda, which had been competing in endurance races since 1976 and boasted overwhelming dominance with the RCB1000, introduced the RS1000 as its factory machine in 1980. Built on the basis of the CB900F?which had gained popularity as a replica of the RCB?the machine was equipped with an air-cooled, 4-stroke DOHC 4-cylinder engine. The 1981 model featured a high-performance engine with a displacement of 999cc and a maximum output of over 130 horsepower. In 1980, it brilliantly secured the championship title. Although it missed out on the championship in 1981, it performed exceptionally well?including winning the Suzuka 8 Hours, the fifth round of the World Endurance Championship series held at Suzuka Circuit?and finished second in the overall standings.
