About the G3SG/1 Type The G3SG/1 is a sniper rifle based on the German-made “G3” assault rifle, which uses 7.62mm NATO ammunition. The SG/1 was developed as a special variant for sniper use by selecting high-precision units from the G3 production line and equipping them with sniper-specific parts such as a dedicated scope, a stock with a cheek piece, a bipod, and a compatible handguard. Unlike specialized models such as the PSG1, which are entirely dedicated to precision shooting, the G3SG/1 retains the G3’s inherent ruggedness and commonality of parts while also allowing for fully automatic fire when necessary. Based on a mass-produced standard-issue rifle, this model extends its capabilities to include medium- to long-range shooting, embodying the practicality and craftsmanship characteristic of German firearms.
